Pan Ping-Yu

If we seek to understand the relationship between humankind and nature from mythology, then it’s chaotic, it’s ordered. Respond to it and you become your own hero. (Extracted from Eternal Nature)

Pan Ping-Yu’s works mainly explore the relationship between myth and the contemporary life. In Pan’s belief, myth provides a creative narrative which ultimately leads to a primitive relationship of mutual belonging, i.e. a kind of harmonization of cultural relationship.
Those who are interested in myth mostly are attracted by the symbols in myth, but what fascinates the artist is the structure of myth.  Eternal Nature suggests that the eternal nature of myths originates in mundane stories, through which we interpret or make deductions about the endless creativity in our lives.  The spirit of Nature and the mind of human beings thus become an inspiration extracted from the images in myth.

Tseng Wei-Hao

Graduating from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at Tainan National College of the Arts with an M.F.A. degree, Tseng Wei-Hao is one of the most established sound artist in Taiwan. Since the early stage of Tseng’s artistic experiment, he has been fascinated by the interrelation among sound, space, and body. Viewers can easily distinguish his works by the huge installation which occupies the whole exhibition space, the human touch, the finger tips, the carbon ink, and the interactive noise transmitted through human body. Among these elements Tseng Wei-Hao demonstrates a brand new world which has never been probed into by our pre-existing visual experience, in order to “search for the true human perception through a standardized environment,” says the artist.

Tseng Wei-Hao started a series of experiments on “noise” – which was defined as the essence of voice by the artist – between 2005 and 2005. The black lines painted on the walls intended to deliver a conceptual message through the interaction with the human body. Viewers thus became an indispensable part of its completion. The “human touch” connected both human body and machine in the circulation of sound. The created “noise,” therefore, seemed to be brought into life.

Tseng Ying-Tung

Born in 1953, Tseng Ying-Tung graduated from New York University with an M.A. degree in 1992 and started a new journey in art. Throughout his career as an artist, Tseng Ying-Tung has been inspired by personal experiences and self-observation. As presented in his artworks, he desires to find out the balance between the real and the fantasy. He often adopts spectrum light to represent the inner purity and the outer struggle of humanity with an attempt to create new symbols which represent those conflicts.  In the artist’s belief, “rainbow” is the best image to transfer the message of peace, balance, and silence.  Furthermore, rainbow can be regarded as a messenger between heaven and the mundane world as the old legend tells. It perfectly connects the two main focuses of his artistic practice – painting and public art – which both together present the negative side and the positive side of the artist.

Tseng Ying-Tung has once described himself as “an instable soul struggling between the reality and the dream, which gradually turn out to be the energy to enrich the spirit.”

Born in 1976 in Penghu, Chen Shiau-Peng graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts with a B.F.A. degree and later graduated from Pratt Institute in New York with an M.F.A. degree. Since 2000, Chen’s artworks have been displayed in Taipei, New York, Shanghai, Gwangju, Melbourne, and Sydney.  She has also participated in artist-in-residence program in Taipei Artist Village and The 18th Street Art Center (Los Angeles).  Her artistic practice mainly focuses on painting, text-work, and installation. The images/lines of abstraction, representation, flatness, mapping, geometry, and color become the recurring motifs in her works.

The geometric shapes and the color blocks in Chen Shiau-Peng’s works often remind viewers of the artworks of Piet Cornelies Mondrian. However, the difference lies on how Chen transforms the three-dimensional structure into a two-dimensional plane, i.e., the canvas. In such a transformation, Chen discovers the composition of the color blocks and the transition of space.....

181 Chen Sung-Chih

Born in Nantou in 1978, Chen Sung-Chih graduated from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at Tainan National University of the Art with an M.F.A. degree in 2005.   His artistic practice mainly emphasizes on mixed media installation such as the use of ready-made objects. These ready-made materials extracted from our day life are randomly assembled, combined, and transformed in his works, in order to present a totally different touch from the originally rough and cold quality. It seems that the artist delicately blends the complex psychological element into the lifeless objects. His art creations, therefore, is given warmth and poetic meanings. In the past several years, Sung-Chih has participated in multiple artist-in-residence programs in the Great Britain, Egypt, France, and Taiwan.  His achievements include the 2004 Taishin Arts Award (ranked as the Top 7 of Visual Arts), the 2003 and the 2008 Taipei Arts Award for Honorable Mention, and the 2001 S-An Aesthetics Award for Arts Creation Support. Furthermore, he has organized12 individual exhibitions since 2001 and received numerous exhibition invitations.  He currently lives and works in Taipei, Taiwan.
