The Spectacular Boom of Taiwan Contemporary Arts
Despite the global economic downturn, Taiwan contemporary art are flourishing in Taiwan. The last six months, five contemporary galleries will be open in Taipei City and several other areas. In 1990, a pluralistic society, a dynamic arts scene flourished in Taiwan. In the same decade, the international exhibition of contemporary art in Taiwan has increased dramatically and greatly appreciated.
The very concerned of the Contemporary Arts in Taiwan was about the impact of ‘economic miracle’ of 1980. Fast growing industrialization and the erosion of the natural world and spiritual connections made the contemporary art in Taiwan more unique. This is expressed Huang Chin-Ho, the work of the early 1990′s until today. His paintings are images of contemporary buildings, hybrid grotesque figures and a series of symbols of the past.
Symbols artist combine Traditional a modern-day Taiwan, such as peach (longevity), sugar cane (and luck), and lotus leaves, with the touch of imitation classical facades of karaoke bars and strip clubs in the settings of the garden exquisitely painted .. . The artist speaks of Taiwan “immigrant” and “colony” of culture to be produced by the pompous, pretentious aesthetic formula brash Rococo … In these wild scenes of the notice, the artist applies to the consequences (especially environmental), Taiwan’s society, materialism and pragmatism and, ultimately, a meditation on human existence with the spirit world in the balance, perhaps trapped in a fire, colorful world of passion and mortality.
And environmental issues and reinventions of the past again in the works of Lee Ming-Tse in southern Taiwan – included in both Art in Taiwan and the second Asia-Pacific Triennial. While there are obvious parallels to the Chinese literati (scholar) artists, the painting of the APT Lee, A Day in the Life of an Artist (1994), reflects the personal observations of the “overlapping, faces conflicting Taiwan “, the changing nature of its local environment in Kaohshiung complicated by the imminent threat of a nuclear power – mirrored the broader issues, regional and global.
After the boom in Chinese art who has the most Taiwanese collectors of modern art after 2003. They also expanded their interest in Japanese, Korean, Southeast Asia and India. Although the expansion was a bit opportunistic, he also made the market wider and stronger. But there are other hidden problems in the boom: Most galleries launched during these few years are much more like retailers than to galleries. They import the art of Japan, Korea, put them in a group show and sale. They do not work with the artists or treat them as artists of the gallery. And it became harder to see an exciting solo exhibition, which can have the career of an artist from Taiwan. Another problem for the Taiwanese art market is the huge gap between the market and academics. 6, Taipei Biennial has been the most affected among the biennial Asia last year, but the show is still very conservative galleries.
The concerted development of Taiwan contemporary art made two Taiwanese and the rest of the world more aware about the Chinese art. Several exhibition of contemporary art in Taiwan has shown internationally in 1990. Collectors of Taiwan have the most successful collectors of Asian thought. The tradition of collecting art has been handed down since the Japanese colonial period in 1989.
